Our Warranty

We Stand Behind Our Work

When your project is complete, it’s built to last.

In addition to registering all applicable manufacturer warranties for decking, railing, and related components, Tool & Trade provides a 5-year labor and materials warranty on the work we perform.

This warranty begins on the date of project completion

Workmanship Warranty Coverage

This warranty covers defects in workmanship or installation directly performed by Tool & Trade, including:

  • Structural framing issues resulting from installation error

  • Improperly installed hardware, hangers, fasteners, or blocking

  • Flashing installation errors that lead to water intrusion

  • Loose or improperly secured boards or railing components

  • Installation-related structural deficiencies

If something we installed fails due to how it was built, we fix it.

Material Warranty Coverage

Decking, railing, and related components are covered under their respective manufacturer warranties. We handle registration and assist with documentation if a claim is required.

If a material defect arises, we will pursue the manufacturer warranty first.

If the manufacturer does not provide coverage and the issue falls within five years of project completion, Tool & Trade will stand behind the materials and address the issue directly.

Not Covered

These items aren’t covered, but we understand accidents happen, so we still offer a 15% discount on fixing the following:

  • Normal/Expected Wear (natural fading of wood color/stain, scratches from use, etc)

  • Expansion and contraction of composite deck boards and changing gaps or open miters that may happen because of this. We build in ways to minimize these changes, but we cannot control this completely.

  • Development of early water damage due to items being placed directly against non-pressure-treated wood surfaces (capillary action prevents drying), soil being placed against non-pressure-treated wood surfaces, or excessive wetting not due to weather (ex: irrigation, condensate drip lines, gutter failure, etc)

  • Abuse or abnormal use (damage from hot items, chemical damage, excessive loads (ex: installing a Hot Tub without prior structural reinforcement), staining from objects, etc)

  • Acts of God (damage due to storms, fire, earthquakes, hordes of locusts, zombie apocalypse, etc)

  • Damage due to tree roots

  • Extreme or unusual circumstances (landslides, vehicle collision, etc)

  • Lack of proper maintenance such as annual cleaning, maintenance of stained/painted surfaces, etc.

  • Issues arising from Homeowner or other contractor modifications

  • Imperfections (knots, checks, small chips, dents, etc) in structural lumber that do not impact the structural integrity of the lumber. If a very fine finish for the structure itself is desired, we ask that this is communicated in the design phase so we can specify different materials such as Vertical Grain Cedar or Metal Framing.
