Composite Deck Rebuild & Clear Patio Cover
What Our Client Said
“If you need a deck or any sort of outdoor carpentry done, run, don’t walk, to sign up with Tool and Trade. Owner operator Drew is a treasure. He’s honest, meticulous, a good communicator and an incredibly talented carpenter. He rebuilt our deck this spring and built a nice covered shelter for it for a very reasonable price, on schedule, on budget, with no hiccups.
And years before he started Tool and Trade, we met him at our gym as a fellow weightlifter and commissioned him to build a wooden weightlifting platform in our tiny town house garage that only had room for one car and had a confoundingly sloping floor. We needed the platform to be strong enough to withstand dropping hundreds of pounds plus barbell onto it from up high, and to also be strong enough for us to park our SUV on top of it when we were NOT lifting. And he somehow figured it out. The platform still lives to this day.
So, use this company. You can’t go wrong.”

The Project
This was a redeck of an existing floating deck that sits on top of a waterproofed PVC patio roof.
The homeowners wanted a low-maintenance, attractive deck and a clear patio cover so they could use enjoy their morning coffee outside even in our PNW drizzle. To avoid disturbing the waterproofed PVC roof membrane, we built the cover on tall 6x6 posts that extend up from beyond the deck and cover it completely.
We replaced the old cedar with TimberTech Coconut Husk composite decking, reinforcing the frame as needed, and topped the cover with clear Palram EZ-Glaze polycarbonate panels for a low-maintenance, bright space that will last for many years to come.
The end result is a sturdy roof structure that keeps the entire deck dry and lets in lots of natural light, so they can enjoy their morning coffee outside, rain or shine.
